LED lights for streets, parks, parking lots, and garages is one of the major applications for reducing energy, maintenance and replacement cost. LED lights have a much longer life than conventional light sources, minimizing distortion and glare while providing brighter white light. Until recently, LED technology was considering insufficient concerning light output. Lately, the LED industry made significant progress and now many cities and municipalities around the world are replacing streetlights by LED.

Most of the energy spent by conventional light-sources is not converted into light, but dissipated as heat. Moreover, most part of the energy converted into visible light is wasted for it does not go directly to the intended point of illumination, but instead is spread around in all directions. This is called “light pollution” and has a number of implications on the environment. In addition, most conventional light sources are expensive to maintain due to the bulb short life and ballast failure.

LED is a directional source of light. It directs the light to where it is intended. By combining multiple LED arrays and lenses in one fixture, LED can achieve a variety of light distributions such as cosine or batwing, upward or downward as desirable.
