Federal Tax Credit
The Energy Policy Act established 30% on the total solar system cost as tax credit with no maximum credit for the purchase and installation of residential solar water heater or solar
photovoltaic. If the federal tax credit exceeds tax liability, the excess amount may be carried forward to the succeeding taxable year. Expenditures include labor costs for the onsite
preparation, assembly, or original installation of the system, and for piping or wiring to interconnect the system to the dwelling.
More information on tax brake here.
Most States and utility companies offer rebates for solar water heater or solar photovoltaic. Check your State website or local utility company for more information. More information on incentives and rebates here.
Qualification for Tax Credit and Rebates
Solar water heaters must be SRCC certified to be eligible for rebates
or tax credit. Solar photovoltaic modules must be UL
certified. Some states may have additional requirements including installation.
You may check with your state or local utility company
on rebate programs before place an order.
